February 2, 1940 – June 6, 2025

Susan Demmler Jacobs passed away peacefully in the care of the staff at Sherwood Oaks and Bridges Hospice in Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania.

Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Susie graduated from Winchester Thurston School in 1958 and from Wittenberg College in June, 1962 with a Bachelor's degree in Sociology. After winning a prestigious internship with Columbia University, she completed a Master's Degree in Social Work in 1966. Throughout her career working in mental health, she focused her passion on caring for unhoused people experiencing severe mental illness. She retired as a Clinical Director in Bronx, New York, for a residential program where she helped the most vulnerable and mentored many social workers. Upon retirement, she continued to make a difference in Reno, Nevada working with families and volunteering on a crisis line. She even worked on Christmas Day, making sure no one was left alone on the holiday.

Susan was preceded in death by her parents, Louis F. Demmler and Jean Crouse Demmler, her loving husband Stephen Jacobs, and sister Virginia Jean Demmler. She leaves behind numerous family members and friends, including sisters Nancy Demmler Clark (Richard) and Elizabeth French Clerkin (Will McCracken); brother Kirk French (Carolyn); nieces and nephews, Amanda Clerkin, Wendy Erler (Rick) and Leigh Lynch; and two stepchildren Matthew and Elizabeth. She is also survived by her beloved Shi-Tsu, Maggie, who was by her side for her years in Reno, Nevada and at Sherwood Oaks.

Susie was known for her soft heart, sharp wit, and sarcastic tone. She loved Law and Order, handsome men, adopting animals, and delighted in laughing with her sisters, who were her best friends. People were drawn to her and are grieving the loss of a unique and funny person. At her request, there will not be a ceremony. The family suggests, in her honor, that you can donate to the 988 Crisis Hotline (https://988lifeline.org/donate/) or the ASPCA; toast a glass of bourbon with friends; and be unapologetically outspoken.

The family would like to thank the staff at Bridges Hospice and Sherwood Oaks for their loving companionship and dedicated service.

Arrangements were entrusted to Pittsburgh Cremation & Funeral Care, Robinson Township, PA.
