John Philip Wunderly, Jr., age 80, of Chantilly, passed away peacefully on August 2, 2024. Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the son of the late John and Dolores (Moul) Wunderly. Beloved husband for 60 years of Kathleen. Father of John (Dottie) Wunderly, children Bridget, Bernadette, and John; Glenn Wunderly, children Rachael and Mariah; Valrie (Steve) Henry, children Sean, Joseph, and Caleb. Brother of James Wunderly, Mark Wunderly, and the late Curtis Wunderly, and Patrick Wunderly. Survived by many nieces and nephews.
He was a founding member of Saint Timothy Catholic Church in Chantilly, Virginia. He was an active volunteer for many years at the church. He enjoyed most attending his grandchildren's swim meets and sporting events. He was proud of his grandsons participation in Boy Scouts, especially three that earned the rank of Eagle Scout. He spent many hours coaching his children's youth sports teams. He was a lifelong Steelers fan.
He earned his undergraduate degree in Business Administration from Duquesne University. Upon graduation, he was commissioned with the U.S. Army and assigned to the Transportation Corp. He served as a Captain in the United States Army. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He also received an MBA from American University, and was a graduate of the Executive Public Management Program from the University of Washington. Following his military career he held positions at Headquarters, Military Traffic Management Command, DOD for 33 years, all in the information systems management area.
