Johnnie Hugh Kernell, 76, of Vermilion, passed away on Sunday, January 12, 2025, at Main Street Care Center following a lengthy illness.
Born on February 3, 1948, in Lorain, Ohio, Johnnie had called Vermilion home for the past 50 years, after relocating from Berlin Heights.
A proud veteran, Johnnie served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. Following his service, he worked as an electrician for various companies for 25 years before retiring in 1999.
Johnnie was an outdoorsman who found joy in fishing and hunting. He also had a passion for classic cars and loved to dance.
He is survived by his daughter, Shellie Kernell of Vermilion; his son, Timothy Kernell of Sheffield; his brothers, Daniel Kernell and Norman Kernell; and his sister, Lorena Tellman.
Johnnie was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Bernice (nee Holms) Kernell; his brothers, Claude, William, and Lynnroy Kernell; and his sisters, Ella Jean and Violet.
Private inurnment will take place at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to a veteran's organization of the donor's choice.
