With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Johnny D. Bata, who entered eternal rest on February 16, 2025, at the age of 68. A devoted husband, loving father, cherished grandfather, and a man of deep faith and service. Johnny leaves behind a legacy of love, dedication, and generosity.
Born and raised in the Philippines, Johnny earned his mechanical engineering degree and went on to build a successful gravel and sand business. With a heart set on providing the best for his family, he later closed his business and migrated to the United States, where he began a new chapter of his life. He worked tirelessly as a nurse technician at Methodist Hospital for 20 years, demonstrating unwavering dedication and compassion in his service to others.
After his well-earned retirement, Johnny returned to his roots, devoting his life to serving his community in the Philippines. He was honored to become the first Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus at Saint Vincent Parish and Shrine, a role he embraced with great humility and dedication. His faith was the cornerstone of his life, and he found joy in giving back, mentoring, and strengthening the bonds of brotherhood within his community.
Johnny balanced his time between the Philippines and New York, ensuring he could share precious moments with his beloved family. He was the devoted husband of Nellie for 48 years, a proud father of five children, and a beloved grandfather to eleven grandchildren-each of whom he treasured dearly.
As part of the Knights of Columbus, Johnny embodied the values of leadership, charity, unity, and fraternity. He was a beacon of light, touching countless lives with his kindness, wisdom, and steadfast faith.
His presence will be deeply missed, but his legacy of faith, hard work, and selfless service will continue to inspire those who knew and loved him.
A funeral service will be held to celebrate Johnny's life and legacy.

Following the services in New York, Johnny will be transported to the Philippines, where he will be laid to rest in his final resting place, surrounded by the land, family, community and people he so dearly loved.
