Johnny Gill

Johnny, age 90, joined his beloved wife in Heaven on Sunday, March 22, 2026. He was a resident of Albany, LA. Johnny proudly served his country in the United States Army. He was a Deacon as well as a dedicated member of Bethlehem Baptist Church, where his faith was evident not only in his words, but his actions. Johnny gave generously of his time, always willing to serve, participate in church events, or help his church family. His passion for education shaped generations for more than 32 years. Johnny started his education career as the head basketball coach and assistant football coach at Albany High School. As principal of Albany Elementary School, he led with wisdom and a genuine love for students and staff alike. Johnny believed deeply in the potential of every child and worked tirelessly to create an environment where they could thrive. His leadership extended beyond the school walls as he continued his service within the Livingston Parish School Board. Above all, Johnny was a family man. He adored his loved ones and found his greatest joy in spending time with them, especially cheering on his grandchildren from the stands as they played the sports he loved so much. Johnny leaves behind a loving family, devoted friends, and a grateful community who will cherish his memory forever.

He is survived by his sons, Darren Gill and Gary Gill; daughter, Kristi Meyers (Wendell); sister, Jerry Ann McGee; grandchildren, Craig Gill (Alecia), Brett Gill (Rachel), Logan Gill, Kyle Gill, Haley Meyers, Scott Meyers; and great-grandchildren, Bailey Gill, Bryson Gill, Caroline Gill, Ethan Gill, Jace Gill, Grace Gill, Anna Gill, Riley Gill, and Liam Gill.

Johnny is preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Gill; parents, Mabel and Norman Gill Sr.; brother, Norman Gill Jr.; sister, Audrey Pace; and infant brother, Roy Gill.

Pallbearers will be Craig Gill, Logan Gill, Brett Gill, Kyle Gill, Scott Meyers, and Lance Broussard.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation at Bethlehem Baptist Church on Thursday, March 26, 2026 from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral service at 12:00 p.m. Bro. Alton Foster will officiate with interment to follow in the church cemetery.
