Gene was born on September 17, 1945 at Holy Name of Jesus Hospital in Gadsden, Alabama to Auddie Roosevelt Haggard and Dora Lee Rushing Haggard. Gene had a sister and a niece but sadly lost contact with his extended family.
The greatest joy of Gene's life was his family. He married the love of his life, Carol Kaye Pruitt on April 21, 1978 in Calhoun County, Alabama. Together they welcomed their son, Jonathan Eugene Haggard in 1979. Gene and Carol made it their life mission to provide the best care and education for Jonathan. Their love and devotion to one another carried them through life until Carol's passing on November 24, 2021.
Gene was a lifelong educator, teaching with passion and commitment. After Jonathan's birth, he furthered his education to become a certified teacher for children with special needs. His dedication to teaching and nurturing young lives left a lasting impact on many.
As Gene's health declined, he required professional caregivers. Hannah Chapman with Keepsake Companions, along with her staff and Linda Wright, became like family to him.
Gene will be remembered for his devotion to Carol, his unwavering love for Jonathan and the kindness he extended to all who knew him. He leaves behind his son, Jonathan Haggard, along with extended family and cherished friends.
The family would like to thank all who supported Gene in his final years with love, care and friendship.
