John Arthur Michel, known to all as Johnny, passed away suddenly in his hometown of Canton, Ohio on May 8, 2025, due to a heart attack. Born on April 8, 1975, Johnny's 50 years on earth were lived through the joy and adventure he brought into the lives of those who knew him.
Johnny is preceded in death by his stepmother, Denise. As well as his paternal grandparents, Art and Joan Michel, and maternal grandparents Edie Eggenschwiler and Richard Eggenschwiler.
Johnny is survived by his long-term partner, Michelle Yokum. He was the beloved son of mother Nancy Michel, father Art Michel, and stepmother Tammy Michel. Johnny leaves behind two children, Shawn Michel and Josie Pocock (Sean), along with his adored grandchildren Jase Garner, Jerze Garner, Lyla Pocock, and expected grandson Luka Pocock. He also leaves behind his siblings Jennifer Dick (Kevin), Ginny Murphy (Billy), Allie Smith (Jeff), Aubrie Grossi (Nick), and Dylan Michel (Emily).
Johnny lived his life through the joy of family, friends, and the outdoors. His interests included motorcycles, hunting, and he was devoted to the Grateful Dead-though, let's be honest, the only thing he ever caught was more tunes at a Billy Strings concert. He followed their concerts like a true 'Deadhead,' with a dedication that only the most devoted fans could understand. If there was a party, a concert, or a family gathering, you'd find him right in the middle of it, his contagious laughter setting the rhythm for the good times. His love for tie-dye wasn't just a fashion statement; it was a colorful expression of his free spirit, one that he wore as proudly as his infectious smile.
He was a man who lived with his heart on his sleeve, loving, giving, and always ready with a joke to ease your troubles. He has left behind a legacy of laughter, love, and the reminder to always enjoy the ride. So, let's crank up some Billy Strings and Grateful Dead, wear our brightest tie-dye, and celebrate Johnny, a man who taught us all to laugh a little louder and love a little deeper.
The family will receive friends Friday, May 16, 2025 from 5:00-7:00pm at Paquelet Falk Funeral Home 303 S. Chapel St., Louisville, Ohio 44641, where a funeral service will be held at 7:00pm. Condolences may be shared online at www.paqueletfalk.com
