Muncie – Donald E. Michel, 96, passed away on Saturday, August 31, 2025 at Friends Fellowship Community in Richmond.
He was born on July 16, 1929, in Huntington County, Indiana, the son of Herbert and Pauline (Kennedy) Michel and graduated from Washington Center High School in Whitley County.
Donald later graduated from Purdue University School of Agriculture and completed his Masters and Doctorate in Education from Ball State University.
He taught Science at Wilson Junior High and Biology at Northside High School before transitioning into administration. Donald served as the Director of Curriculum for Muncie Community Schools until his retirement in 1991.
He was member of the Hoosier Orchid Society, served on the Board of Trustees for Earlham College and the Board of Directors for Friends Fellowship Community in Richmond. He was also the former Presiding Clerk of the Muncie Monthly Meeting of Friends, a member of Muncie Friends Church, First Friends Meeting in Richmond and Delaware Kiwanis Club.
Survivors include his children, Jan Scott (Mike) and Brad Michel (Geralyn Coticone); his grandchildren, Lindsey Brooks (John), Carrie Rainey (Josh), Amanda Michel and Lauren Michel; great grandson, Freydan Rainey; along with a sister, Joyce Butler.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of sixty-eight years, Nancy Michel in 2022; four brothers and one sister; along with his parents.
Services will be 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 3, 2025 at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel. Private burial will take place in Gardens of Memory Cemetery, north of Muncie.
Family and friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the mortuary.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Muncie Friends Church, 418 W. Adams Street, Muncie, Indiana 47305 or Friends Fellowship Endowment Fund, 2030 Chester Blvd. Richmond, Indiana 47374.
