Obituary for Johnny Lee Nave "Tree Man"
Johnny Lee Nave, lovingly known as "Tree Man," age 63, of Greenwood, Arkansas, passed away peacefully at his home on September 30th, 2025. He was born on October 26, 1961, in Fort Smith, Arkansas, to Charles Albert Nave and Annetta Lois (Phillips) Nave. Johnny graduated from Greenwood High School and later built a life doing what he loved most-working outdoors as a self-employed tree arborist. His skill and passion for climbing and caring for trees earned him his nickname and the respect of many.
On August 8, 2005, Johnny married the love of his life, Stephanie, in Greenwood, Arkansas. Together they shared a beautiful family and many cherished memories. Johnny was happiest outdoors. He loved wood carving, scrapping, and splitting wood. Whether working hard or enjoying the fresh air, he found peace in nature. More than anything, he will be remembered as a hardworking, devoted husband, father, and grandfather who loved his family deeply. He is survived by his wife, Stephanie Nave; his children, Cody Nave, Hailey Robertson (Lucas), Summer Nave, Chelsy Wilbanks, and Taisha Nave; and three grandchildren, Luca, Tristan, and Jackson.
Johnny also leaves behind his siblings, Clifford Nave, Charles "CW" Nave, Anna Canada, Helen Nave, Sherry Holmes, and Chaim Nave; in-laws, Andy Wilbanks, David Ingle, and Alan Holmes; many nieces and nephews; and close friends, Jerry Brewer, Dan and Tara Burgess, and John and Wendy Lampcom. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Annetta Nave; his brothers, Marvin "Skeeter" Nave and Lewis Glen Nave; and brother-in-law, Elmer Canada.
A Celebration of Life Service to honor Johnny's life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at River Glenn Chapel, 1805 North A Street, Fort Smith, Arkansas.
Johnny's legacy will live on through his family, his craftsmanship, and the countless trees that will stand tall as a testament to his life's work. Cremation is under the thoughtful care of River Glenn Cremation and Funeral Services.
