Jon Kalback Obituary
Hagerstown, MD
Jon Martin Kalback, 84, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2026, at Doey's House in Hagerstown. Born Thursday, Oct. 16, 1941, in Wilkinsburg, he was the son of the late Charles Edward Kalback and the late Margaret (McDonnell) Kalback. Jon earned his bachelor's degree from Youngstown University in 1966 and a master's degree from the University of Maryland. He spent one year with Thorofare Grocery, Pittsburgh, working in Human Resources, followed by eight years in the Prince George's County school system. In 1976, he joined Smithsburg High School, where he taught diversified occupations until his retirement in 1998. Outside of his professional career, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, bicycling, and woodworking. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Kalback; son, Andy Kalback, and wife, Shawn Rhine Kalback; daughter, Jenny Kalback; granddaughters, Erin and Nora Kalback; sisters, Judy Thompson and Joyce Huen; sister-in-law, Jane Kalback; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Jon was preceded in death by his brother, Jerry Kalback; and brother-in-law, Roger Thompson.
Family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., Friday, Feb. 6, 2026, at the funeral home. Services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Feb. 6, 2026, at DOUGLAS A. FIERY FUNERAL HOME, 1331 Eastern Blvd., North Hagerstown, MD, with the officiating. Interment will be at the Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown, MD, following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the ARC of Washington County, Inc., 820 Florida Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21740. Online condolences may be expressed at www.douglasfiery.com.
