Jon Craig Quisenberry of Avon, OH entered eternal rest November 18, 2024. He was born December 7, 1957 in Lorain, OH.
Jon graduated from Avon High School in 1976 and from Kent State University with a degree in telecommunications with a minor in religion. He had also attended Cleveland State University and Lorain Community College (LCCC).
For over 30 years he was the handy-man and care giver to Gladys Tomes of Stone Eagle Farm in Avon.
Early in his career he was employed as a salesman at JC Penney's (Midway Mall) in the audio department and had worked in the audio/telecommunications department at LCCC as a technician and teacher. He was employed by the State of Ohio for 13 years, most recently by ODNR as manager of Punderson State Park and maintenance coordinator for Cleveland Watercraft. He had previously managed the State Parks at Kelley's Island and Maumee Bay.
Jon served for over 20 years as a volunteer Firefighter and EMT for the city of Avon and was trained as a state arson investigator.
He had been a Boy Scout Troop leader of Troop 333 in Avon, having been on a High Adventure expedition with the boys to Northern Tier and always attended the yearly week-long summer encampments at Camp Manatoc in Peninsula, OH, and many weekend camp outs and activities in the area. He was an Eagle Scout badge counselor. He also mentored other young people outside of the BSA community.
Jon loved nature and observing the animals and plants of the woodlands. He would often have breakfast behind the garage where the deer, foxes, and other animals would come near and even bring their newly-born to play close by. He maintained several bird feeders outside the kitchen window and had the ever ready binoculars and bird guide to identify what was visiting. He truly enjoyed helping others whether it was fixing a vehicle, plowing snow or cutting grass, and helped countless others that he encountered in his life travels.
He was devoted to his church, St. Andrew's Episcopal, serving reliably as an acolyte for many years and on vestry committees, as well as serving as a Sunday School teacher and counselor.
He is survived by his wife Caren (nee Yavornitzky), his children Megan (Tony) Quisenberry-Gagnon, Jason Quisenberry (Stefanie Corriveau), and Justin (Nicole) Quisenberry. His sister Jody (James) Klejka, nieces Allie (Colin) Anderson, Gabrielle Klejka and nephews John Klejka (Sydney) and Robert (Jessica) Glowacki, sister-in-law Sue Glowacki (Mike Montgomery), uncle Jerry (Linda) Wood and grandnephews Brooks and Noah Anderson, and many other extended family and friends, and dog Zeus.
He was preceded in death by his father Joseph, mother Donna, and brother Michael Quisenberry, and grandniece Elizabeth Anderson.
The family will receive friends on Friday December 6, 2024 from 4:00-8:00 pm at the MISENCIK FUNERAL HOME, 36363 Detroit Rd Avon.
A 10:00 am service will be conducted on Saturday at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 300 3rd. St., Elyria, 44035 followed by interment at Elmwood Cemetery.
Uniformed representatives of the State of Ohio Honor Guard, the Avon Firefighters and EMTs, and the Boy Scouts of America Troop 333 will be in attendance at the various events.
In lieu of flowers donations can be sent to St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, the Pet Pantry of Lorain County, Second Harvest Food Bank, or your favorite charity.

Jon (or as I called him, Jon-O or JQ) and I were coworkers in the (then) Instructional Television/Media Services Department at Lorain County Community College for 10 years, from 1990-2000. We were counterparts and partners, and worked on MANY projects together. We made a great team, seeing things mostly the same way and complimenting each others unique skills. I worked there for almost 30 years and the ten with JQ were the best of those years. He made the hard times easier and the good times better. We haven't had much contact in the ensuing years, but not for lack of trying. Life and distance pretty much kept getting in the way, which is a reminder to work harder not to let that happen. I can't believe he's gone, and far too young. And he still owes me about 15 lunches. I'll get them eventually. RIP Jon-O. You will be missed :(
