Jonathan Paul Wiening 53, of Cranston, passed away peacefully at home on Monday January 8, 2024. Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on October 27, 1970 to Eric A. and Elizabeth (Ludwig) Wiening, Jon grew up in West Chester, Pennsylvania and moved to Rhode Island in 1993. In addition to his parents Jon is survived by his wife Laura Kline, son Jeremy, daughter Dilys, brothers Donald (Andrea) of Hopatcong, New Jesey, and Mark of Chestertown, Maryland, mother and father-in-law Jean and Charles Kline of Pennsylvania, sister and brother-in-law Amy (Kline) and John Scholtz, nephews Jack and Ryan Scholtz, and niece Lilly Scholtz all of Pennsylvania; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A graduate of Henderson High School in West Chester, Pennsylvania, Jon received his B.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of Virginia in 1992 and his M.S. in Theoretical and Applied Mechanics from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign in 1993. He enjoyed a 25-year career at Dassault Systèmes Simulia Corp. (originally HKS, Inc.) in Johnston. Jon found immense joy as a musician throughout his life: singing in the choir at Calvary Lutheran Church in West Chester, playing classical guitar, performing with friends in college and at Ludwig family reunions, writing and recording several albums of his own songs, and performing with various professional vocal ensembles based in Providence including Ecclesia Consort and Zefiro. He was an active member of the Edgewood Highland Elementary School PTO from 2010 to 2020 and coached his children's Warwick Firefighter's Soccer Club teams for many years. Jon loved the outdoors and living near the water and spent countless hours hiking, kayaking, camping, and traveling with his family and friends. He faced life every day with gratitude and courage even after his diagnosis with Multiple-System Atrophy in 2020. Jon will be remembered as a devoted, faithful, and caring husband and father and a dear and fun-loving friend and colleague by all those who were touched by his sense of humor and grace.
Visitation will be held in The Butterfield Chapel 500 Pontiac Avenue Cranston on Friday January 12, 2024 from 8:30-9:30 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Saint Paul Church of Edgewood One Saint Paul Place Cranston at 10:00am.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jon's memory to Saint Elizabeth Home Care (www.stelizabethcommunity.org) or Waypoint Adventure (www.waypointadventure.org), a non-profit organization that offered Jon the opportunity to continue to experience nature.
