Jose Diaz Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Mills Funeral Home, Peters & Murray Chapel - Grand Ledge on Dec. 11, 2024.
Jose Luis Diaz Jr., known affectionately as Joe "and everyone's Uncle Joe" to his family and friends, passed away peacefully on December 6, 2024, at the age of 55. Born on March 2, 1969, Joe's life was one of unwavering dedication to his loved ones and his country, marked by his infectious laugh, kindness, love, and humor that touched everyone he met.
Joe is survived by his devoted wife of 30 years, Nicole, and their three cherished children, Joaquin, Olivia, and Diego. He will be lovingly remembered by his father, Jose Diaz Sr. and his wife Erma; his mother, Antonia Diaz; and his sisters, Maribel Diaz Sullivan and her husband Sean, Monica Rivas, Melissa Rivas, and Alma Diaz-Smith and her husband Craig. Joe's life was enriched by the companionship of his childhood best friend, Chris Nicklesen. He was preceded in death by his best friends Steve Mireles and Ricky Rivas, and his mother-in-law, Stephanie Woinowsk.
Joe was a proud graduate of East Lansing High School, class of 1987. After graduation, he answered the call of duty and joined the United States Army, where he served his country with honor and distinction. Following his military service, Joe dedicated himself to a career in healthcare, working in the Emergency Room at Ingham Regional. His desire to serve and protect others led him to a second career as a Correctional Officer at the Ionia Correctional Facility, where he served with the same commitment and bravery that defined his life.
Joe's interests were as diverse as they were passionate. He was an avid hiker, swimmer, and traveler – always seeking new adventures with his family. His love for biking and working outdoors was only matched by his reputation as a grill master at family gatherings. Joe found solace in gardening and any time he could spend with his wife and three children. A spirited fan of both the Detroit Lions and the Dallas Cowboys, he never missed a game, and he enjoyed watching these games with his family. Every chance Joe had, he made it a priority to be present at whatever sport or event his children were involved in. He also loved cars and an occasional auto show with his family.
Above all, Joe will be remembered for his faith, generosity, and the light he was to everyone who was fortunate to know him. His kind and loving nature was evident in everything he did, and his sense of humor brought laughter and joy to those around him. The legacy he leaves us all is to always put your family first and above all, no matter what, love them.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 am December 17, 2024 at Trinity Church, 3355 Dunckel Rd, Lansing, MI 48911 with a visitation starting at 10:00 am.
