Joseph D'Agnillo Obituary

JOSEPH D'AGNILLO, aged 87, passed away peacefully at home on July 30, 2025. Joe was born in Ogden and raised on the family farm in Riverdale, Utah. He lived in Hurricane, Utah for the last 7 years with his wife, Sandra.

Joe was a lifelong artist; always sketching, planning and thinking about his next creation. After receiving a bachelor's degree in art from Utah State University, he worked in several design-related jobs: commercial artist, package designer, periodical layout designer, architectural designer and design draftsman technician. Later, he worked at Hill Air Force Base in a civil service supervisory position. Joe was proud of the home he designed himself and lived in for several years in Huntsville, Utah.

When he retired, Joe devoted his time to developing his skills in fine art. Oil painting, primarily of landscapes and still life, was his true niche. He painted the beautiful vistas surrounding his home in Huntsville, Utah. He also loved to travel around Utah and the Southwest to paint. He particularly enjoyed his trips to Italy, France and Mexico for art instruction workshops.

Joe was the driving force behind the concept and establishment of a cooperative artist gallery on 25th Street in Ogden: Gallery 25. Having seen similar galleries in his travels, he knew it would work in Ogden too. Although he left the gallery in 2014 to move away from the area, he retained an emotional connection to the gallery and its original group of artists. He was gratified by the gallery's success and continued existence.

Joe is preceded in death by his parents Nicola D'Agnillo and Mary Pannunzio D'Agnillo, by his foster daughter Tam and by his son Mark. Survivors include: his wife Sandra, brother John, sister-in-law Elaine, foster son Vinh, Vinh's wife Luminita and their children Victoria and Lucas, Tam's husband John and their children Preston and Amber, son Michael, grandchildren Joshua and Heather, Neice Mary Ann and Nephew Nick.

A memorial service will be held at Grace Episcopal Church in St. George on August 29, 2025, at 5 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Moran Eye Center at the University of Utah for continued research into the treatment of macular degeneration.

Joseph was under the care of Spilsbury Mortuary, 110 South Bluff Street, St. George, Utah. 435-673-2454.
