Joseph Salem Daoud, 96, of Cedar Rapids, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 5, 2025, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. Visitation will be held at St. George Orthodox Church on Friday May 9, 2025, from 5-7 p.m., where there will be a Trisagion service beginning at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at St. George Orthodox Church on Saturday, May 10, 2025, beginning at 10 a.m. with burial to follow at St. George Cemetery. Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids is serving the family.
Joseph was born on October 17, 1928, in Ain Arab, Lebanon, the son of Salem and Zarife (Abdelnour) Daoud. In 1952 he married Odette Skaff in Ain Arab, Lebanon. He served as mayor for many years and owned several businesses in Ain Arab where he left a legacy of kindness and compassion to his community. He immigrated to the United States in 1975 and owned and operated the Breakfast House Restaurant in Cedar Rapids. His customers loved his hospitality and his contagious smile.
Joseph Is survived by his wife Odette Daoud; children Lidia (Naim), Claire (Mirhij), Nadia (Samir), Laila, Renee (Pierre), George and Eva; grandchildren Tony, Mireille, Elie, Vania, George, Rola, Suzanna, Chanelle, Mira, Rami, Amanda, and Vanessa; Brother David (Nicole) Daoud; sister Rachel David; and many nieces and nephews
He is preceded in death by his parents Salem and Zarife (Abdelnour) Daoud, siblings Elias Daoud, Saleem Daoud, Mary Kobrosly, Hanne Swaita, and son in law Elie Abboud.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials may be directed to St. George Orthodox Church.
