Joseph P. Friery, age 80, formerly of Wyalusing, PA passed away on Thursday, August 7, 2025 at the Sayre Health Care Center where he had been residing for the last few months.

Joseph was born on April 11, 1945 in Towanda, PA. He was the son of the late John Frederick and Julia Anna Friery. He grew up on the family farm where he enjoyed doing the outdoor chores.

He married the love of his life, the former Lucretia "Pat" Hoover on August 25, 1984. He was employed as a Loader with the State Aggregate in Wysox, PA for 38 years.

Joseph was a faithful member of the St. Mary's of the Assumption Church in Wyalusing, PA. He was also a volunteer with the Wyalusing Valley Volunteer Fire Department and looked forward helping with the carnival each year. He took great pleasure being outdoors, whether it would be hunting, cutting wood, or mowing the yard, as well as making maple syrup and tinkering in the garage. He and his wife traveled multiple times to Florida and enjoyed going on cruises. He loved his animals especially his dogs, Bear, Bruny, and Lady Girl.

He is survived by his wife, Lucretia "Pat" Friery; his step-children, Susan Johnson of Athens, PA and David Johnson (Tammy) of South Carolina; his step-grandchildren, Joseph Dees, Amanda Vanderpool (Todd), Melissa Horton (Matt), and Sara Johnson (David Stroud); his step-greatgrandchildren, Julia Vanderpool, Ryan, Gage, and Abel Horton, and Michael, Mitchel, and Mathew Johnson; his brother, James Friery (Carol) of Mill Hall, PA; his brothers/sisters-in-law, Richard and Lila Hoover of Lafayette, LA, Juanita Tenasco of Terrytown, PA, and Charles and Doris Hoover of Wyalusing, PA; as well as many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, John Friery, and his sisters/brothers-in-law, Mary and Ted Foster, Janet and Russell Price, and Raymond Tenasco.

A Memorial Mass will be held will be held on Friday, September 12, 2025 at 12:00 noon from the St. Mary's of the Assumption Church, 245 State St, Wyalusing, PA 18853 with Father Jose Joseph Kuriappilly officiating. Family and friends may call at the church on Friday from 11:00 AM until the time of the Mass.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Wyalusing Valley Volunteer Fire Department, PO Box 86, Wyalusing, PA 18853.
