Donald T. Palmer, age 86, of Sugar Run, PA passed away on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, at home.

Don was born in Binghamton, NY on August 5, 1939, the son of the late Theron William and Marjorie Elizabeth Thomas Palmer. He graduated from Binghamton Central High School, attended Broome Tech and Oklahoma State University where he earned his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering.

After college, he worked for IBM in Owego for 30 years. In his most notable project, he led a team in the development of a radar system used in the USAF's first anti-SAM program on an S-3B aircraft. The Project Wild Weasel describes the specialized USAF crews, aircraft and missions that suppress enemy air defenses with direct attacks.

In 1992, he met the love of his life, Peggy Loomis. After dating a few months, he invited her to travel across the country in his van, and she accepted. Her daughters thought she was crazy and told her they may never see her again! They spent the next 33 years together traveling the country, the Caribbean, Mexico and spent winters in Myrtle Beach at their second home. His love of travel infected Peggy and her family, spending an annual vacation on Wellesley Island on the St. Lawrence River the past 30 years as well as a 19-day trek across the country in 2003. Don also loved to fish, hunt and golf.

Don is survived by his loving partner, Peggy Loomis and his bonus family (Peggy's children), Tammy and Bart Tewksbury of Laceyville, PA, Terry and Terry Cobb of Wyalusing, PA, Lynelle and Todd Goodwin of Wyalusing, PA and Karen and Jeff Ross of Wyalusing, PA, 13 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren: his brother, Robert Palmer; nieces and nephews Debra Butler, Richard Boyle, Kelley Boyle, Tina Jo Arnold, Robin Frisbie, Timothy Palmer, Jerry Russell and Andrew Russell. He is also survived by his lifelong best friend and golfing, fishing and hunting partner, Bob Scales.

Besides his parents, Don is preceded in death by his first wife Nancy Grace Sprenger Palmer; sister and brother-in-law, Phyllis and Thomas Boyle Jr.; brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Mary Elizabeth Palmer; sister-in-law Betty Palmer; and nephews, Thomas Boyle III, Kevin Palmer and Grant Russell.

A private ceremony will be held for Don. Interment will be held at the Wyalusing Borough Cemetery at a later date at the convenience of the family.

The family would like to extend their thanks and gratitude to Don's caregivers, Paula, Michelle, Emily and Courtney, also Amy from Guthrie Hospice and family and friends for all their support.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Don's name to the Alzheimer's Association on their website at www.alz.org.

Arrangements are entrusted with the Sheldon Funeral Home, 155 Church St., Wyalusing, PA. Online condolences may be made at www.SheldonFuneralHomes.com.
