Joseph Hargrave

Joseph Quarles Hargrave, 21, of Chicago, Barrington and Lake Zurich passed away on June 20, 2024.
Beloved son of Elizabeth Young-Hargrave and William Hargrave.
Loving brother to Oliver Sala and William Deshler Cox-Hargrave.
Adored grandson of William John and the late Michelene Young and the late Homer Hargrave and the late Alice Pirie-Wirtz. Dear nephew of Bill (Carla) Young, Meg Young (Jason) Paschall, Alice (the late Jean-Brice Wallon) Hargrave Wallon and Charlie (Kathryn) Hargrave.
Cherished cousin of Maggie, William, Charlotte, Keenan, Evie, Charles (Emma), Jennifer (Ben), Ezra, Gabriel, Sara (Dan), Katie (Eric) and Malcolm.
Joe was a 2021 graduate of Elgin Academy and while he was a student there, he played varsity basketball and tennis, making it to the state tennis tournament twice. He was also on the scholastic bowl and a member of WISE. Joe's classmates recognized his determination and leadership and voted him most likely to succeed.
Joe was a rising senior at the University of Rochester majoring in computer science and minoring in political science. As an active member of the campus community, he participated in the chess club and Habitat for Humanity and was also a member of the Chi Phi fraternity.
Joe was a continuous learner, drawn to learning from other cultures and experiences of his classmates. He strived to live each day true to his purpose, being active in social justice campaigns and political causes. He was also a fiercely loyal friend and brother.
Joe will be dearly missed by many friends and family. A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, June 29th from 9:30am until the time of the funeral memorial mass at 10:30am at Holy Family Catholic Church, 2515 W Palatine Rd, Inverness, IL 60067. A second memorial service will be held on Tuesday, July 2 at 10:30am at St. Chrysostom's Episcopal Church, 1424 N Dearborn St, Chicago, IL 60610. Private interment.
