Joseph Michael Hatley, 57, a beloved and hardworking man, passed away on December 11, 2023, at Prisma Health Baptist Easley Hospital. He was born on February 9, 1966, in Greenville, South Carolina. Michael dedicated over 30 years of his life to working as a tractor mechanic for Greenville Tractor Sales.
Known for his kind and welcoming nature, Michael was always willing to lend a helping hand. He truly embodied the spirit of selflessness, often going above and beyond to ensure the comfort and happiness of those around him. Michael would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need without hesitation. Known to many as a friend, he was known to his mother as a big teddy bear. His devotion to his family knew no bounds, and he made it his mission to take care of them unconditionally.
Michael had a passion for spending quality time with his loved ones. He treasured every moment shared with his family and made it a priority to create lasting memories with them. One such memory was a vacation that Michael and his fiancé Tinna took to the beach last summer. The joy they experienced during that vacation will forever be etched in their hearts. Michael cherished these precious times spent together, even if it was embarking on spur-of-the-moment adventures such as chasing after snowfalls together.
Outside of his work and family life, Michael had a love for grilling BBQ ribs. He was an expert at the grill and took great pride in showcasing his culinary skills. He enjoyed it so much that he owned three grills at home. The sight and aroma of those mouthwatering ribs brought happiness not only to Michael but also to those fortunate enough to sample his delicious creations.
Michael's passing leaves a void in the lives of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed by his fiancé Tinna Ellison, with whom he shared a love that transcended words. His mother Betty Shelnutt (Ronald), daughters Alisha Cardenas (Alex), Carmen Epting (Eli), and Amber Smith, brother David Hatley (Crystal), brother Chris Shelnutt(Amanda), sister Nichole Fleniken (Stephen), grandchildren Madison Frady, Michael Cardenas, Bleu Braeazeale, Zayden Smith, and AJ Smith and Ma'Kayia Simpson will forever hold him close to their hearts.
Michael is predeceased by his father James Lewis Hatley. He was raised by his stepfather Ronald Shelnutt. Whom he loved.
To honor Michael's memory and celebrate his life, a visitation event will be held on December 15, 2023, from 1:00 PM to 1:45 PM at Robinson Funeral Home on Powdersville Road in Easley, South Carolina. Following that, a memorial service will commence at 2:00 PM at the same location. These gatherings will provide an opportunity for family and friends to come together in remembrance of Michael's remarkable life.
Joseph Michael Hatley's legacy is one of love, compassion, and hard work. He leaves behind treasured memories that will continue to bring comfort and joy to those who were fortunate enough to have known him.
