Joseph Arthur Holmes, age 71, a resident of Covington, Louisiana passed away peacefully on January 26, 2026 at St. Tammany Parish Hospital.
Joseph was born on July 27, 1954 in New Orleans, Louisiana. After graduating, he began his career in bulk distribution at the grain elevator, where he made many cherished, lifelong friendships. He went on to become the Bulk Plant and Operations Manager for Dupuy Storage and Forwarding Corporation, where he was well respected for his dedication and leadership until his retirement. He then built his forever home in Covington, where he resided until his passing.
He is survived by his daughter, Holly Holmes Leonhard (Robbie); her mother, Laurie Fuchs; and his two beloved grandchildren, Rhett Joseph Leonhard and Landry Noelle Leonhard, who were his pride and joy. He is also survived by his nephew, Joseph Serpas, who he always referred to as more like a son. The family would also like to extend heartfelt gratitude to his close friend, Michael Goslee, for his companionship and care shown to Joseph for many years.
He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Holmes; his mother, Mary Kirsch Holmes; his sister, Mary Ann Serpas; his twin brother, Charlie Holmes; his nephew, Michael Serpas and several close friends.
Joseph loved spending time outdoors and being on the water, especially. He enjoyed shrimping and fishing in the Rigolets and Lake Borgne. His daughter will always remember many nights spent fishing on Mr. Yancy's pier catching limits of speckled trout. Joseph delighted in cooking and boiling his own seafood to share with family and friends. He also cherished sitting on his patio, admiring his pond and the wildlife it drew. He faithfully watched the Saints play every Sunday during football season.
Joseph will be remembered in the hearts of those who knew him as a devoted father, loyal friend and for his strength through many of life's battles.
Please join his family in celebrating and remembering his life at Bagnell and Son's Funeral home on Friday, February 6, 2026. Visitation at 11am until 1 pm where a catholic mass will begin.
