Joseph G. Langenstein, age 86, of Chillicothe, passed away on Thursday, December 7, 2023 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
Joe was born on March 20, 1937 in Buffalo, NY to Franklin Joseph and Josepha Marie (Goergen) Langenstein. He married Carol Marie Bubb on June 29, 1963 in Fort Wayne, IN.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Carol; his children, Richard (Stephanie) Langenstein of Houston, TX, Timothy Langenstein of Peoria, IL, Michael (Sharee) Langenstein of Murphysboro, IL and Mary Beth (James) Lorenson of McKinney, TX; his grandchildren, Elizabeth, George, Joseph, David, Savannah (Ryan) Young, Andrew, Sarah, Kayleigh, Maria, Delaney, Abigail and Kyra Langenstein, Reagan, James and Peyton Lorenson; one great-grandchild and one on the way. Also surviving is his sister, Mary Jo (Jack) Peacock of Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Frank Langenstein, Jr.
After graduating from Indiana Tech, Joe went to work as a mechanical engineer for Caterpillar, retiring in 1996. Joe was an active member of St. Edward Catholic Church in Chillicothe. He volunteered with many projects for the church and was the chair member for 15 years of the Christmas Basket Project. Joe also enjoyed woodworking and did a lot of charitable projects for St. Edward and St. Jude Children’s Hospital in Peoria.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, December 13, 2023 at 11am at St. Edward Catholic Church in Chillicothe. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Resurrection Cemetery in Peoria. Memorials in Joe’s name may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or St. Edward Catholic Church.
