We are saddened to announce the death of Joseph Andre Mailhiot, a beloved family man, father, and Grampy, who passed away peacefully in Medway, MA, on June 13th, 2025, at the age of 93, surrounded by his loving children.
Joe was a devoted and caring husband to his predeceased wife of 63 years, Dorothy Mailhiot. Together they raised 5 children, hosted many holiday parties and family reunions, and were always the first to step foot onto the dance floor.
He is survived by his children, Wendy Clougherty of Medway, Joseph Mailhiot of Franklin, Lisa Bergstrom and her husband David Bergstrom of Palm Springs, CA, and son-in-law, Paul Gajdarik of Bradenton, FL. He is predeceased by his son, Andre Maihiot, and daughter, Michelle Gajdarik.
Born and raised in Saxonville, MA, Joe was 1 of 11 children. He is survived by his two sisters, Yvonne Bent of Ashland, MA, and Louise Conner of Interlachen, FL, in addition to numerous nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his father and mother, Josephat Mailhiot and Marie Louise Parras Mailhiot, and siblings Dora Ward, Emil Mailhiot, Jeanette Fannon Dec, Irene Shaughnessy, Edmond Mailhiot, Leo Mailhiot, Robert (Bob) Mailhiot, and Diane Mailhiot. No matter the distance, Joe and his siblings always managed to find time for each other.
Joe adored his 9 grandchildren: Derek, Ericka and her husband Stephen, Andrea, Kristen, Nathan, Andrew, Rachelle, Madison, and Cairan. Each holding special memories with their beloved Grampy that will always be cherished. He also leaves behind his 3 great-grandchildren Tyler, Blake, and Ryder. Being one of their biggest supporters in everything they do, never failing to slip each one of them a $20 bill.
Joe worked for Environmental Interiors Inc. of Nashua, NH, for 30 years, belonging to the Carpenter Local 475 out of Framingham, MA, and was also an active member of the Franklin ELKS Lodge. Known for his big heart, he was a man who asked for very little but was generous with others and was always there to lend a hammer or a helping hand. He loved joking around, and his smile and laughter were contagious.
Joe, for over forty years, took pride in tending to his beautiful home and its gardens in Franklin, MA. Having an eye for the arts, he often would sketch or paint. As an avid golfer, Joe was a member of several golf leagues and cherished golfing with extended family members, like the Sheehans.
He and his wife loved traveling or going out to dinner and drinks with "The Gang," a group that was never short on laughter or antics. They spent many snowbird winters soaking up the sun with loved ones in Fort Myers & Hobe Sound, FL, and they were fondly known for doing the occasional "pop-in" road trips.
With a kind spirit, love for his family and friends, and the occasional Fireball shot, he will be greatly missed by all.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 25th, in the Ginley Crowley Funeral Home (www.ginleyfuneralhomes.com), 3 Barber Street, Medway, from 3:00pm to 6:00pm
A service will be held at 5:30 p.m. in the funeral home.
