Joseph Allen Matos, lovingly known as Joey, was born on June 13, 2025, and passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 21, 2025. Though his time on this earth was brief, his life was overflowing with love, warmth, and joy that will live on forever in the hearts of those who knew him.
He was the beloved son of William Matos and Alexis Matos. Of course, he was the adored little brother of William Matos, his constant companion and forever his big brother. Joey was deeply loved by his grandparents Be Bop (William), Mita (Deborah), Mimi (Beth), Pop Pop (Chris), Grandad (Jimmy), and Oma (Mistie), along with his many aunts, uncles, and cousins, all of whom treasured every second with him.
He was also cherished by his great-grandparents Grandma (Dranda) and Nana (Joann). Joey is lovingly watched over in heaven by Nanie (Sonia), who preceded him in death and will now hold him close, caring for him until the day his family meets him again.
Joey was known for his beautiful blue eyes, soft blonde hair, and a smile that instantly lit up any room. He loved his feet, always had his hands in his mouth, and was constantly discovering the world around him. His first words were "Mama" and "Hi," words that will forever echo with love.
He was the strongest little baby many had ever known, resilient, peaceful, and full of quiet strength. He was never fussy unless you didn't bring his milk fast enough. He gave the best cuddles the proudest burps and recently found joy in pizza crusts and baby crackers, which quickly became favorites. His second tooth was coming in, a small reminder of how quickly he was growing.
Joey's love was limitless. Ten thousand kisses were not enough, and even a million couldn't come close to expressing how deeply he was cherished. Though his time here was short, he gave his family a lifetime of love, laughter, and memories packed into the smallest moments.
Joey will always be remembered as a good, gentle, sweet soul, a perfect little boy whose light will never fade.
The family will receive friends for a viewing and visitation from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 27, 2025 in the chapel of Oman Funeral Home, 653 Cedar Road in Chesapeake. The funeral service will start at 1:00 pm in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens.
A special thank you to Aubree Midgett for her unwavering help, care, and overwhelming love during this difficult time. Her selfless generosity in covering Joey's funeral arrangements will forever be remembered and deeply appreciated by the family.
The family would also like to thank everyone for the prayers, love, and support shown during this heartbreaking time. The kindness extended to them has brought comfort beyond words and will never be forgotten.
Forever loved. Forever missed. Forever Joey.
