Joseph H. Metzger Jr., a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on the 27th of May, 2024, at the age of 76, in Slidell, Louisiana. Born on February 21, 1948, in New Orleans, Louisiana, he was a man of integrity, warmth, and wit, whose presence enriched the lives of all who knew him.
Joseph is the son of the late Joseph and Laura Metzger. His early years were spent in the vibrant city of New Orleans, where he attended McDonough 35 College Preparatory Charter High School. It was here that he cultivated a lifelong love of learning and an unwavering work ethic.
After completing his education, Joseph embarked on a fulfilling career as a machinist at Rite Way Piston Ring Co., where he was known for his meticulous craftsmanship and dedication. His colleagues respected him not only for his professional skills but also for his camaraderie and sense of humor.
Joseph's heart belonged to his beloved wife of 44 years, Carolyn Metzger, who was his partner in all of life's adventures. Together, they raised two wonderful children, Jay Metzger and Kimberly Cahill (Mickey). Joseph took great joy in his role as a father, imparting wisdom and sharing in countless cherished moments. The arrival of his grandchildren, Erin Metzger, Andrew Metzger, Clark Cahill, and Macklin Cahill, added a new layer of joy to his life. He reveled in teaching them how to play chess, a game that highlighted his strategic thinking and patience.
His siblings, Gerard Metzger and Kathy Metzger, shared in the many fond memories of growing up in a close-knit family, and they remained an integral part of Joseph's life through the years.
Joseph's interests were as unique as his personality. He had a passion for collecting old cars, each one with a story that he would enthusiastically share. His visits to the casino were not just about the games but also about the people he met and the stories they exchanged. Joseph's love for life was evident in everything he did.
As we remember Joseph H. Metzger Jr., we celebrate a life lived with purpose and joy. His legacy is one of love, laughter, and the countless memories he created with all whom were lucky enough to cross his path. Joseph's spirit will continue to guide and inspire us, and his memory will be treasured forever in our hearts.
