Joseph Anthony Metzger

With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Joseph Anthony Metzger, a cherished member of the Marion community, who left us on Saturday, June 15, 2024 at the age of 86.
Born on April 3, 1938, in Shelby, OH, Joseph dedicated his life to his family, his profession and his faith. A devout husband, he was married to his beloved wife Lynne for 60 years, whose recent departure eight months ago deeply touched his heart.
Joe graduated from Campion Jesuit High School in 1956 and went on to obtain a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from Ohio Northern University in 1961. As a respected pharmacist, he served the community with dedication and compassion for over 25 years.
A proud father of five, Joseph's legacy is carried on through his children, 14 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren, all of whom he adored. His commitment to healthcare was evident through his pivotal role in establishing the Center Street Community Health Center, ensuring care for those in need.
He had a lifelong love of golf, finding not only joy in the sport itself but also in the lasting friendships it brought into his life.
Joe is survived by his brother, Jim Metzger of Chardon, OH, as well as his five children: Laura Metzger of Citrus Springs, FL, Joseph (Krista) Metzger Jr. of Venice, FL, Michael (Molly) Metzger of Mendham, NJ, Kathleen (Jeffrey) Brunswick and Peggy (Mike) Blankenship, both of Powell, OH. Preceding Joseph in death are his wife Lynne, his parents Clement and Mary (Mae), and his six brothers Carl Joseph, Hubert, Carl, Rev. Clement, S.J., Leo, John and five sisters Nelly, Rosemary, Loretta, Agnes and Lucy.
Family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 19, 2024 from 4:00-7:00 PM at Snyder Funeral Homes, Gunder Hall Chapel, 347 West Center St., Marion. A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, June 20 at St. Mary Church with Father Seth Keller officiating. Interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery.
