It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Joseph Calvin Mitchiner, 81, on August 2, 2024. Joseph was a lifelong learner with a deep appreciation for all thing's history. He spent countless hours exploring the past, finding joy in understanding the stories and events that shaped the world we lived in.
Joseph was also a devoted follower of national and local news, staying informed and engaged with the issues of the day. His insights and conversations on both current and past events were a source of wisdom and perspective for many who knew him.
His love for music was another defining part of his life, this love was unmatched as he spent countless hours listening to jazz mostly, but has an ear for even the music of Thailand where he spent his last vacation. Music brought his heart genuine joy!
He is survived by his dear sister, four children, a host of beloved grandchildren as well as great-grandchildren. He enjoyed nothing more than to share their photos and accomplishments. He was so very proud of his legacy and how far each generation surpassed his family's humble beginnings in North Carolina. Notably, there was never a conversation where he didn't mention his undying love for his late mother Beatrice Burwell-Mitchiner.
He had many special friendships of whom will forever cherish the memories of his generous heart and the many lessons he imparted. He leaves behind a legacy of love, knowledge, and passion for the things that mattered most to him.
