Joseph Angel Rodriguez

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Joseph Angel
Rodriguez.
Joe was born on April 24, 1937, in Oakley, California. He was the son of
Nicholas and Halcyon Rodriguez. Joe was the last surviving sibling out of
eight children.
On September 2,1961, Joe married Charlotte Jean Burgin, the love of his
life. Joe and Jean raised two children, Tina and Robert. Robert has three
sons Jacob, Caleb and Ethan. Jacob married Emma Bubeck in 2022. They
are now expecting Joe's first great grandchild.
Joe was a hard worker, who was always striving to do better. He
graduated from Liberty High school in 1955. He went into the Army after
graduation and was stationed in France for two years. It was around 1970
when Joe got the urge to go back to school. He graduated from Diablo
Valley College in 1974 with honors, and in 1986 he graduated from Saint
Mary's College with honors. In 1979 he earned his Contractors License in
Landscaping. He was Chief Gardener for Contra Costa County from 1969
to 1978. In 1978 Joe went to work for Rossmoor Walnut Creek as their
Golf Course Superintendent. He retired from Rossmoor in 2004. In 1990
Joe was awarded the title of "Golf Course Superintendent of the Year"
presented by the Northern California Golf Course Superintendents
Association. He served as president of the association twice. He was also
the first Latino to hold this office.
Joe loved to travel and see the many countries of the world. Joe and Jean
went on 26 cruises and numerous land adventures.
We think Joe would like to be remembered as a loving husband, a
dependable father and a fun Papa.
A Memorial Tribute to Honor Joe's life will be held on Tuesday October 29,
2024 at 11:00AM.
It will be celebrated at the Holy Cross Cemetery Chapel, 2200 East 18th
Street, Antioch Ca. 94509
