Joseph A. Swinehart, age 73, of Upper Sandusky, passed away on Sunday, September 3, 2023, at the Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.
Joe was born in Upper Sandusky, on December 17, 1949, to Melford and Martha Lou (Moyer) Swinehart.
Joe is survived by his two children, Nikki (Chad) Bristoll of Kenton, and Jonathan (Jessica) Swinehart of Nashville, TN, his 4 brothers, Doug (Krista) Swinehart of Lima, Neil (Zorina) Swinehart of Forest, John (Sharon) Swinehart of Sunbury, and Jay (Mindy) Swinehart of Upper Sandusky. Joe is also survived by Lily, his beloved dog.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Scot Swinehart, and Maggie, his beloved dog.
Joe graduated from Wynford High School and went on to Ohio Northern University where he received his bachelor's degree in psychology. Joe worked for the State of Ohio as a Budget Analyst for many years until he retired in 2005.
Joe was an avid Democrat, was a member of the Democratic Committee, the Democrat Club, and he was a member/Vice President of the Old Farts Club.
For hobbies in his early years, Joe enjoyed gardening, photography, and going for bicycle rides. In his retirement years, he enjoyed coffee with friends/neighbors, playing with his dog, talking about his dog and spending time with friends and family Joe also loved music and collecting vinyls.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, September 8, 2023, at Old Mission Cemetery in Upper Sandusky, and will be officiated by Pastor Steve Sturgeon.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Wyandot County Humane Society, and may be sent to Lucas-Batton, 476 S. Sandusky Ave. Upper Sandusky, OH 43351.
