Joseph Gerard Thomas Sr., known affectionately as Joe to his friends and loved ones, passed away peacefully on October 20, 2025 at 92 years of age, in Port Saint Lucie, Florida. Born on September 10, 1933, in Brooklyn, New York, Joe's journey through life was marked by an unwavering dedication to his family, a commendable career in service to his country, and a heart that knew no bounds in its capacity for kindness.
Joe grew up in Brooklyn and attended Erasmus Hall High School. After graduation, he embarked on a remarkable 26-year career with the United States Coast Guard, a testament to his love for his country. Following his distinguished service, Joe continued his life of service to others as an Intelligence Research Specialist with the Drug Enforcement Administration.
He was a devoted and loving husband to his late wife, Victoria Thomas, and caring father to his late son, John Thomas. His legacy is carried on through his beloved family, who were the center of his world. His memory will be cherished by his children, son Joseph G. Thomas Jr., and his wife Cheryl, daughter Rachel and her Fiancé Eric, his grandchildren Christopher, Amie, Brandon, Janisbel; and his great-grandchildren, Christopher, Sophie, Angelina, and Justin. Joe also leaves behind his faithful feline companion, Tiger.
Joe was a pillar of strength for his family and a role model for all who knew him. The world was indeed a better place for having Joe in it, and while he will be deeply missed, the memories of his loving spirit will continue to inspire and comfort all who were blessed to know him.
As we bid farewell to Joseph Gerard Thomas Sr., we celebrate a life well-lived where his legacy of love and dedication to his family and country will forever be etched in the hearts of those who loved him.
Joe's journey through life was a testament to the enduring power of a kind heart and a generous spirit.
Rest in peace, until we meet again.
