Joseph "Mouse" Gerard Welling, 71, passed away on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, in Niles, Michigan.

Mouse was born on December 3, 1953, in South Bend, Indiana to the late Joseph P. Welling and Mary Lou (Haskins) Welling.

Along with his parents, Mouse was preceded in death by his brother John Welling and partner and best friend, Deborah Sanchez.

Left to cherish the memory of Joseph is his son Jeremey Welling; daughter, Krystal Ropp; grandchildren; great grandchildren; brother, Paul Welling; sisters, Marta Richardson, Yvette Dell, Wendy Meadows and Angela Welling; sister-in-law, Betty Welling, along with many friends who will never forget his sarcasm, jokes and tall tale stories.

Joseph was a beloved figure, known for his deep passion for history, which he freely shared with friends and family. His keen interest in collecting coins and building models reflected his appreciation for the finer details of the past and the marvels of engineering. He worked for decades at Dowagiac Commercial Press as a Graphic Artist before retiring.

Joseph was not only an enthusiast of history and collectibles but also had a love for motorcycles, the Chicago Bears, and Notre Dame. His love for poetry inspired many, as he expressed his thoughts and feelings through carefully crafted verses that touched the hearts of those around him.

Joseph will be remembered at a Memorial Mass on Sunday, October 19, 2025, at 11:30am at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 219 South State St. Niles, MI 49120. He also requested friends stop at The Colonial to share memories of his life.
