Tribute to Blaine Welling
Through the eyes of Blaine Welling,
The story of a man that's damn worth telling.
There is a dying breed in the old Wyoming West.
As a red-headed boy, Blaine was put to the test.
His father ruled with an iron fist.
Honesty, hard work, and respect topped his list.
Going through life with a redneck tan,
Life wasn't easy for this goodhearted man.
Nothing was ever given to old Blaine;
He earned all he has through hard work and back pain.
Some say he is strong as an ox,
With the speed and wit of a smart fox.
At times, life could be pleasant on the open range, but
Blaine knew it was time to experience a change.
He tied his old horse to a hitching post,
So he could drive eighteen wheels coast to coast.
Making lots of friends along the way,
Each day he would watch the sun rise and fade away.
With a CB handle known as "Panama Red,"
And a right foot made of pure lead.
Life on the road had treated him well,
Experiencing it with many stories to tell.
As he looked down at his faded cowboy boots,
It was time for him to return to his roots.
The wheels on his truck turned round and round,
Thinking of a life in a small Midwestern town.
Old friends welcomed him as he returned to Basin;
He found a young woman he thought worth chasing.
He soon gained his old respect,
As tradition had taught him, he earned his paycheck.
Marriage and beautiful children would soon follow, but
Twelve years back in a small town was hard to swallow.
The prospects were better elsewhere; it was time to go.
The family packed up and headed for New Mexico.
He bought some land upon a hilltop,
Overlooking the city and a view of Ship Rock.
With a yard full of dirt bikes for some family fun,
Wondering why his is the only one that'll run.
I know this man will never rest.
Driving trucks and loving his family is what he does best.
At the end of the day he has a beer and a cigarette.
He looks across the land and watches the sun set.
