Josephine Ann "Jo Ann" Earnest Barnes, 87, of Versailles, Missouri, passed away peacefully on November 6, 2025. She was born on April 4, 1938, and grew up with a love of color, creativity, and music that stayed with her throughout her life. In high school she sang in a trio that qualified and competed in the state music contest, and she later shared that same joy through the choir at the United Methodist Church.
Jo Ann worked in the title business for more than 30 years. While working for Kavanaugh Abstract she met a young man who worked for the competition, Hubbard Abstract. That young man was Joshua E. Barnes Jr. The two married on July 10, 1969, beginning a life built on love, faith, and family. Hubbard and Kavanaugh eventually joined forces, and the business remains in operation today.
Outside of work, Jo Ann quilted, sewed, knitted, crafted, and read countless books. She filled her home and garden with beauty, warmth, and an unmistakable sense of style. She cooked delicious meals for her family, read stories to her grandchildren, played Pitch with friends, and cherished time with her beloved dog Max. She carried a quick wit and playful sense of humor that only grew stronger in her later years.
Faith was central to Jo Ann's life. She was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women where she found purpose, lifelong friendship, and strength.
Jo Ann is survived by her children Marty Pace (Angie), Chris Pace, Gary Pace (Kim), Lisa Hibdon (Donny), and Leslie Charlton. She is also survived by ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joshua E. Barnes Jr., and her parents.
A celebration of Jo Ann's life will be held at the United Methodist Church sanctuary in Versailles, the same place where she and Jr. were married more than fifty years ago. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon, Tuesday, November 11th, at the Versailles United Methodist Church. Graveside services and interment will follow in the Versailles Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 Noon, Tuesday, at the church. Memorial contributions are suggested to the United Methodist Women.
Arrangements are under the direction and care of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.
