Josephine Hakim Obituary
Born in Detroit, MI on July 8, 1930, Departed on May 12, 2025, from her home in Beverly Hills, MI.
If you knew Julia, you had the pleasure of knowing a very kind woman. She always took the time to make you feel special. She was loving, devoted and trusted. She fiercely loved her family and friends and had a storybook love with her husband of 60 years, Jamil David Hakim.
Julia's marriage was full of every aspect of a dedicated relationship, from the stormiest of storms to pure absolute joy. If you were ever with them at a party, you had the chance to see one of the most elegant couples on the dance floor. They were incredibly proud of all of their children and grandchildren.
Her children consider themselves some of the luckiest on earth to have had Julia as their mother. She was always there to encourage and help them in any way she could. She wanted nothing but the best for them and she led by example.
After college, Julia went to work as a legal secretary until she became a mother. When her children were old enough, she became a bilingual teacher for the Birmingham School District. Later, Julia joined her husband in the family business, Central Alarm Signal, Inc., which has been around since 1969. If you go to Mother of God Chaldean Cathedral, you will see the beautiful alter they designed and constructed in service to the church. Still, that wasn't enough.
Julia was there on the ground floor of the newly formed Chaldean-American Ladies of Charity (CALC). She dedicated decades of her life in service to others. She served three terms as CALC Chairwoman. She knew the importance of education and, during the war on drugs, made sure that critical message was shared with the Chaldean Community.
When the Bishop wanted to form The Chaldean Federation of America, Julia was the one he went to so they could work together. After its formation, she also became an active board member.
It was Julia's dream for seniors to have a place to live near Mother of God Chaldean Cathedral. She worked tirelessly for four years writing proposals for funding, and it was through her initiative the home was built right next door to Mother of God. When the Bishop saw Julia in a meeting for another project, he came into the room and said, "Would you please leave this woman alone? She has enough to do." Julia was a truly passionate woman.
Julia is survived by her children: Robert/Bob (Lynne), Keith, Benita/Bonnie Hakim (Dan Donohue), Carolyn Hakim Koprince, Nicole Hakim Yohn (Chris Yohn), and Derrick (Debbie) as well as her grandchildren: Lauren, Brandon (Whitney), Scott (deceased), Todd, Dana, Stephanie Koprince, Ryan Koprince, Gavin, Justin, Ilse Talia Hakim Yohn and C. (Cort) Atticus Hakim Yohn. She is also survived by her sister, Rosemary Bannon.
