Josephine Montes

Josephine Montes age 93 passed away on October 1st 2025 at her home surrounded by her family in Shafter,California. Josie was born on April 16th 1932 in Waterloo Iowa to Nicholas and Eduvigis "Mary" Montes .

Josie attended schools in Waterloo Iowa and moved to Bakersfield , California in 1946. Graduating from East High School in 1951. Her first job was working at Montgomery Ward department store from 1950-1952

Josie worked for the Kern High School district for 42 years as a stenographer.she was also a member of the CSEA

Josie had many interests and loves , gardening, classic movies, watching Columbo , trips to Cayucos especially with her sisters Polly and Lola , walking on the beach and the pier. Her love of food , cooking and baking goodies for her son and grandsons . Her home brought us all together, God blessed us with her. Most of all her love sacrifice and devotion to her Son Gregory his wife Colleen , grandsons Joshua , Quinn and Dillon Alvarez . Great grandsons Jasper and Jesse Alvarez . Her last words to her great grandsons" I love you always ."She leaves behind her sister Delores "Lola"Baltier of Elizabeth CO

Numerous cousins nieces and nephews . The family are especially grateful to her cousin Tina Lara her friendship and care . Also to her niece Felaine , Josie always looked forward to her evening phone calls and frequent visits , her neighbor and friend Luann who was always there for Josie . We also want to especially thank Hoffmann Hospice for the amazing tender loving care they gave to our beloved Mom and Grandma we are forever grateful to you especially Mari , Erin ,Ashley ,Chaplain Don ,Christina and Diane .
