Obituary of Josephine E. Sargalis
Mrs. Josephine E. "Jo" (Kulpa) Sargalis, 97, a life-long resident of Amsterdam, New York passed away peacefully at Mountain Valley Hospice, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on July 28, 1926 in Amsterdam, New York to the late Albert and Berniece (Trudzienska) Kulpa.
Josephine attended local schools and graduated from Wilbur H. Lynch High School with the class of 1944. After graduating from High School, she furthered her education at the Amsterdam School of Commerce. After earning her degree from the Amsterdam School of Commerce, Jo was first employed by the General Electric Company in Schenectady. She went on to work for Agway Energy Products as a Clerk until her retirement in 1988. After retiring, she worked part-time for the Montgomery County Office for the Aging, and volunteered her time at the Amsterdam Free Library.
Jo was an avid Yankees Baseball fan, and a parishioner of the Historic St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam.
Josephine is survived by her daughter, Nancy (Bill) Burnham of Pennington, NJ; her two sons, Jeffery (Lorrie) Sargalis of Amsterdam, and Kevin Sargalis of Menasha, WI; three grandchildren, MaryJo (Ryan) Rambo, Mark (Melissa) Sargalis, and Matthew (Megan) Sargalis; great-grandson, Blake Sargalis; great-granddaughter, Audrina Sargalis; as well as by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Aside from her parents, Albert and Berniece, Jo was preceded in passing by her sisters, Frances and Stephany; her brother, Julian; brother-in-law, Bill Stanavich; her granddaughter, Emily Burnham; as well as by her former husband, Leo Sargalis.
Josephine's family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the staff at Mountain Valley Hospice for the kindness and care given to her in her final days.
Friends and family are invited, and may call on Friday, May 10, 2024 from 11:00AM until 12 Noon. A funeral service will follow calling hours at noon. Interment will take place in the Good Shepard Cemetery in Amsterdam, where Josephine will be laid to rest with her parents. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Montgomery County Office for the Aging, 135 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, NY 12010, to the Mountain Valley Hospice House, 108 Steele Ave, Gloversville, NY 12078, or to a charity of one's choosing.
