Joyce L. Allington, 88, of Woodhull, passed away on Tuesday, June 24, 2025 at the home of her daughter in Greenwood where she had resided for the last three years.
Joyce was born in Elkland, PA on October 12, 1936, the daughter of the late Gaylord E. and Dorothy L. (Burr) Colvin. She was a 1954 graduate of Woodhull High School. Following high school, Joyce attended the Hornell Business School.
On August 24, 1957, Joyce and Joel W. Allington were married at the First Baptist Church of Woodhull. Joel preceded her in death on January 26, 2020.
As a young woman, Joyce had worked as a dental assistant for Dr. Ralph Vona in Addison. She and Joel operated the Red & White Store in Woodhull for a brief time. Together, they also were the original popcorn concessionaires at the Woodhull Raceway, operating their stand for over 50 years.
Joyce had a long career as a bank teller for Community Bank NA, working until retirement in the Woodhull location.
Joyce was very involved in her community. She was the treasurer for the Woodhull Community Church for 15 years as well as having held that position for the former MacDonald Guild in Woodhull, the Mary Hoare Scholarship Committee of the Woodhull Alumni Association and also treasurer for the American Baptist Women of Steuben Assoc. She was a lifelong devoted member of the First Baptist Church of Woodhull and was an active choir member.
For many years, Joyce acted as a voting inspector for the town of Woodhull as well as the Woodhull Fire District. She served as deputy town clerk for the Town of Woodhull for 10 years. Joyce was always kind and respectful to all that she encountered and was a very loving wife, mom, grandma and sister.
Joyce is survived by her children and spouses, Brian and Rae Allington of Woodhull, Darlene and Tom Wright of Addison and Rita and Shawn Patterson of Greenwood, her son-in-law, Chris Woodworth of Cameron Mills, 12 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, her sisters, Jean Wheatcraft of Lakeland, FL, Judy (Seward Dean) Heckman of Springwater and Linda (Danny) Calkins of Bedford, VA and several nieces and nephews.
