Joyce Ann Fain Gay passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on September 3, 2025.
Born in Edison, Georgia, Joyce grew up with strong roots in faith and family. She attended Florida State University before later pursuing nursing and becoming an LPN. She retired in 1998 from Oconee Center, where she served with compassion as a substance abuse counselor, helping many individuals and families.
She was a faithful member of Hopewell Church and the Lucy Harrington Circle. She also served her community as a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and through her volunteer work at the Pink Bow Gift Shop. She was an avid Atlanta Braves fan and loved traveling, often organizing worldwide tours for herself and others.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bill Gay.
She is survived by her children: Karin (Mike Melvin), Kim Gay, and Keily (Brian Johnson). She was a loving Mema to Clay Melvin, Kyle Melvin, Alex (Brooke) Johnson, Anna Johnson, and Michael Johnson, and great-grandchildren, Zoey Melvin and Lily Melvin.
Joyce will be remembered for her tenacity, strength, and quiet determination-qualities that carried her through life's challenges and inspired those around her. She gave her devotion to her family, church, and community, always showing up with care and support. She leaves behind a legacy of resilience and love that will live on in the lives she touched.
A service to celebrate her life will be held at Hopewell Church on Friday, September 12th at 11 AM. The family will receive visitors at 10 AM in the fellowship hall.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday September 13th, at Mars Hill Cemetery in Edison at 11 AM.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hopewell Church of Milledgeville, 188 Hopewell Church Road, Milledgeville, GA 31061.
