Joyce Carol Harmes, 92, of Evansville, Indiana passed away Tuesday, March 19, 2024, at Ascension St. Vincent Evansville.
Joyce was born in Evansville, Indiana on February 29, 1932, to the late Sibyl Anna (DuVal) and Lester H. Harmes. Joyce graduated from F. J. Reitz High School in 1950. She retired from A&H Truck Lines after 29 years of employment. She was a member of St. Theresa Catholic Church, and more recently Good Shepherd Catholic Church. Joyce was a life-long member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She was also a charter member of Boys Club Service League which later became the Boys and Girls Club. Additionally, Joyce was a member of Daughters of Isabella #144, Little Sisters of the Poor Auxiliary, Jeanne Jugan Association, VFW Auxiliary Post 1114, Goodwill Auxiliary, and Women's Rotary. In her free time, Joyce enjoyed sports, traveling, and the outdoors. She loved new adventures, kept active, and always wore a smile.
Joyce is survived by her nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Marilyn Wright, Elizabeth Conway, Lois Grayson and Patricia Griggs; brothers, Arthur, Charles, Daniel, and Wayne Harmes; and three nephews, Danny Wayne Wright, Frank Conway, Randy Myrick.
A Mass of the Resurrection will be 11:00 am on Monday, March 25, 2024, at Aperion Care Lincoln (formerly Little Sisters of the Poor), 1236 Lincoln Ave., Evansville, IN. 47714, with Father Ted Tempel celebrating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery.
Friends may visit from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm on Sunday, March 24, 2024, at Browning Funeral Home, 738 Diamond Ave., Evansville, IN 47711, and again from 9:00 am until mass time on Monday at Aperion Care Lincoln.
Joyce wished to especially thank Father Ted Tempel and his sisters: Mary Schroeder, Jane Gerbitz, and Cathy Adams; nephews, Michael Harmes and Brad Harmes; Dr. James Jenison; Dr. Mark Browning; and her dearest family and friends for all their love and care over the years.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Evansville Wartime Museum, 7503 Petersburg Rd., Evansville, IN 47725, or your favorite charity.
