Joyce L. Johnston, age 78, passed away peacefully on June 2, 2025, in Franklin, Indiana. Born on March 25, 1947, in Altoona, Pennsylvania to the late Francis A. and Diana Macharola.
Joyce will forever be remembered as a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Her warmth and kindness cast a gentle glow on everyone she encountered. She is survived by her devoted children, Jonathan A. Johnston (Angie) and Lisa M. Eddy (Robert); her brothers, Steven Macharola, David Macharola, and Joseph Macharola; her cherished grandchildren, Robert Eddy, Kurtis Eddy, Marissa Johnston, and Madeline Johnston; and her adored great-grandchildren, Karlee, Audrey, Phoenix, River, and Iris. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph W. Johnston Jr.
Professionally, Joyce dedicated over two decades to her role as a medical technician in a laboratory. After a successful career in medical technology, Joyce committed an additional 10 to 15 years to Marsh, from which she ultimately retired. Through her work, Joyce left an indelible mark on her colleagues and the many lives she touched.
Beyond her professional achievements, Joyce cultivated a myriad of interests that brightly colored her life and the lives of those around her. She was known for her love of shopping and the simple joy she found in dining out at her favorite restaurants. Joyce held a special place in her heart for her family and sought every opportunity to gather and create lasting memories with them.
A time spent living in Arizona revealed yet another of Joyce's passions - dog grooming. There, her skills and affection for animals flourished, endearing her to all the furry friends she encountered, especially her beloved Yorkies.
Joyce's kind and loving nature defined her and endeared her to all who had the pleasure to know her. Her legacy will be carried on in the lives of those who loved her and will keep her spirit alive for generations to come. She will be missed deeply and remembered fondly, leaving behind a trail of love and kindness for all to follow.
Services will be private.
