She was born and raised in Jay, and graduated Jay High School in 1960. Joyce married her life long partner, Jim C. Settle, and spent 51 beautiful years together before Jim's death in 2011.
After starting a home and family, Joyce earned her Bachelors of Science in Education and Biology at The University of West Florida; graduating in 1977. Joyce began her teaching career at Chumuckla High School and also taught at Pace High School. Many students enjoyed learning science, biology, chemistry, and math under Joyce's teaching.
Joyce was a devoted church member at Jay First Baptist Church and served in many ministries and committees alongside other members of her church family. She touched many lives as she lived and worked in her church and community.
She loved to cook and bake for friends and family, and enjoyed sharing her talent for hospitality on many occasions, including several wedding rehearsals and receptions. She also enjoyed traveling, sewing, quilting, gardening, reading, spending time with her grandchildren and entertaining for the holidays. Many who knew her will miss her dearly.
Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Jim C. Settle; parents, R.B. (Buck) Jackson and Louise Bush Jackson; and brothers, Charles Richard Jackson, Sr. and Aubrey Bryant Jackson.
Joyce is survived by daughter Marsheila Riggs (Chris), daughter Charlon Edmunds (Terry), and son Matthew Settle. Surviving grandchildren are Gina Edmunds, Caitlin Riggs, Kevin Edmunds, Melinda Edmunds, Amanda Riggs, Megan Settle, Garrett Settle and Andrew Settle.

The funeral will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2024 at Jay First Baptist Church with visitation beginning at 12:30 PM and the Funeral Service at 2 PM. Burial will be at Cora Baptist Church Cemetery, Jay, Florida immediately following the service.
Pallbearers: Bill Bryan, Terry Diamond, Jackson Free, Bruce Godwin, Dr. Richard Muller and John Stamatelos.
Honorary Pallbearers: Maxine Ivey, Laverne Little, Alma Settle, Mary Jane Young, Jolly Jays, Sisters in Christ Sunday School Class and the Widows and Widowers Sunday Lunch Group.
The Settle family would like to express special thanks to friends and family for their support and love. Also many thanks to the doctors and staff of Four Seasons Hospice in Flat Rock, NC and Jay Funeral Chapel for their dedicated and loving care.
