Joyce B. Staten passed away peacefully at home on January 28, 2025, with family by her side. She was 78 years old. Born on November 10, 1946, in Highland Park, Michigan, Joyce was the cherished daughter of the late Roald and Beatrice Bruland (née Himebauch).
Joyce graduated from Birmingham Groves High School and had a long and successful career as an administrative assistant with General Motors. Known for her dedication and professionalism, she was a trusted colleague and friend to many.
Joyce was deeply involved in the Order of the Eastern Star, where she forged lifelong friendships. As a lifetime member of the Daughters of the Nile and an active participant in
Shriners Hospital International, Joyce found joy and purpose in serving others. She proudly held the role of Oakland County conductor and played a key role in organizing
Shriners Hospital Club events, including the beloved Shrine Circus.
Joyce was a creative soul with a gift for knitting and crocheting, crafting beautiful pieces that brought warmth and joy to those around her. She was also an adventurer, with a special love for traveling, especially to Hawaii and Europe. A devoted Elvis Presley fan, she enjoyed his music throughout her life.
An avid golfer, Joyce embraced the camaraderie of her ladies' league, where she shared laughter and competition. Those who knew her will remember her as a sweet and kind-hearted woman, yet one who carried a strength that ensured she would stand her ground when necessary.
Beloved wife of George for 37 years. Loving mother of Kenneth Chambers (Theresa) and Kimberly Krolikowski and stepmother of Carol Glenn (Glen), Joe Staten (Candice), Lorie Spencer (John), and Mari Jones (John). Dear sister of Jeff Bruland (Linda). Also survived by many loved grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, and brothers, Ronnie Bruland, Dennis Bruland (Ute), and Dwight Bruland.
Family will receive friends on Friday, January 31, from 2-8PM with Eastern Star and Daughters of the Nile service at 7PM at A.J. Desmond & Sons 2600 Crooks Rd. (between Maple and Big Beaver) Troy (248) 362-2500.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 1, at 11AM at the funeral home. Visitation prior to the service will begin at 10AM.

Shriners Hospitals for Children, an organization close to her heart.
