Joyce Darlene (Moore) Swango, 91, of Bloomington, IN went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, December 18, 2024, after dying peacefully surrounded by many loved ones. Joyce is survived by four of her five children, Sara Swango, Beth Swango, Linnie (Luke) Howard and Brent Swango. She is also survived by 6 of her 8 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, in whom she took especially great joy and adored.
Joyce was predeceased by her husband of 70 years, Pastor Lloyd L Swango, her son Howard (Marietta) Swango; two grandsons, Patrick Swango and Toby Finley, her parents Everett Moore and Della (Faucette) Moore; siblings Buela Moore, Lloyd Ivan Moore, Cecil Lee Moore, Eva L (Moore) Groves, Elsie Fern (Moore) Solenberg, Holland Irving Moore, Hazel Iola (Moore) Hicks, Harold Edwin Moore, June I. Joyce's warm, loving spirit reflected her love of the Lord. She served, along with her husband, many United Methodist parishioners. Over the last sixty years, they served the congregations of Koleen, Mineral, Walker's Chapel, Greene County Chapel, Hobbieville and Solsberry. She loved Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) and completed at least two complete cycles of that study, and more recently she loved fellowship with the Wednesday Ladies' Bible Study Group at Harrodsburg Global Methodist Church, her home church during her later years.
She enjoyed many rich friendships with members of the Indian Creek Lions Club, where she served actively for over 5 decades. She was given the "Melvin Jones Fellowship Award" from Lions Club International in recognition of her service.
Joyce was a homemaker raising 5 children until she took a position at Sears Roebuck and Company in the 1960's, later she worked as a telephone operator at Indiana Bell Telephone until she retired and began helping to care for and nurturing her beloved grandchildren.
Joyce's family would like to convey their heartfelt gratitude to their friends and family for the overwhelming expressions of sympathy and support.
