Joyce Zemanek Obituary
Monsignor John McCaffery will officiate the service. Burial will be in Smetana Cemetery. Arrangements are by Hillier Funeral Home in Bryan.
Mrs. Joyce Zemanek passed away peacefully at home on March 14, 2025. She was born in Hearne, TX to Mitchell E. McMillan Sr. and Nellie M. Liles McMillan and lived in Franklin, TX while growing up. She attended one semester at Sam Houston State University and eventually settled in Bryan, TX in Brazos County.
She worked as a secretary for Bryan I.S.D., working at Bowie Elementary, Bonham Elementary, and the ACE Program and then went on to work at Texas A&M University in the Horticultural department being an assistant to Dr. Norman Borlaug where she later retired.
Joyce was a very kind and wonderful person, always seeing the best in everyone. Her smile would light up every room she entered and her laugh was warm and heartfelt. She always wanted everyone to be happy and to enjoy their lives.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents: Mitchell and Nellie McMillan Sr. and both of her brothers and their wives: Mitchell McMillan Jr. (Janette) and Douglas McMillan (Erika).
Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Charles R. Zemanek Sr.; three children: Charles Zemanek Jr., Darren Zemanek Sr. (Amy), and Kimberly Zemanek; and ten grandchildren: Chaz Zemanek (Rani), Chase Zemanek, Christian Zemanek, Bailey Zemanek, Kaitlin (Kyle) Ronn, Lindsay Zemanek, Darren Zemanek Jr., Meaghan Zemanek, Kindall Zemanek, and Brayson Armstrong; two great-grandchildren: Willow Zemanek and Aidan Ronn; and five nephews and three nieces.
