Jozsef Laszlo Matthews Pal, a twenty-three-year-old Army National Guardsman and student at the University of Oklahoma, passed away on Friday, March 7, 2025, at OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Joe was born on February 7, 2002, in Springfield, Missouri, to Joseph and Amanda (Matthews) Pal, and he graduated with the Class of 2020 in Joplin, Missouri.
Joe's time at the University of Oklahoma highlighted both his athletic talents and his commitment to service. He walked on to the OU football team before discovering a passion for rugby, where he earned recognition as the number 8 flanker in the country. His dedication to sports was matched by his decision to join the Army National Guard-a source of great pride for him. Serving as a medic and participating in a scout team, Joe embraced challenges and sought adventure, including the thrill of parachuting, all while remaining focused on making a positive impact.
Joe is survived by his parents, Joseph and Amanda Pal; his two sisters, Jessica Rae Pal and Julianna Racquel Pal; his maternal grandmother, Judith Wachter; and his grandmother, Debra Matthews. He is also fondly remembered by his many friends, teammates, and fellow members of the National Guard.
Visitation for Joe will be held on Friday, March 28, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Brown-Winters Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Miami, Oklahoma.
A Celebration of Life for Joe will take place on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at 2:00 PM at First Christian Church in Miami, with Mr. Young officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Fort Sill Funeral Honors Team, and interment will be at the Grand Army of the Republic Cemetery in Miami.
