Nancy Newton Walter, beloved daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away on August 24, 2025, at the age of 83.
She was born on May 14, 1942, in Houston, Texas, to George and Dorothy Newton. After the war, in 1946, the family moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma, where Nancy grew up. She graduated from Central High School in 1960 and went on to attend the University of Oklahoma. While there, she was an active and proud member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority, graduating in 1964.
Nancy then married and began her family life in the Chicago suburbs. She was the devoted mother of three children: Lance, Tracy, and Randy. Her children were the center of her world, and she took great pride in nurturing and supporting them in whatever adventures made them happy. The family moved to Nancy's childhood city of Tulsa in 1984. Once her children were grown, Nancy completed her Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology and loved working with elementary-age school children.
In 1994, Nancy married Tom Walter, her loving husband and devoted partner. Together they built a life filled with warmth, joy, and treasured memories. They retired in 2000 to their dream home in Weaverville, North Carolina, where they enjoyed local concerts, hosting visitors, and exploring all the beauty in the area.
Nancy's greatest fulfillment came from her family. She especially cherished her role as "Gammy" to her five grandchildren: Hayden, Kelsey, Brendan, Josie and Taylor. She also enjoyed Tom's three children, Dan, Amy and Tom, and their families. Time spent with all of them brought her happiness and pride beyond measure.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Dorothy Newton, and her siblings, Linda Newton and Bill Newton. She is survived by her brother Bob Newton and wife Pat, husband, Tom Walter; her children, Lance Torcom and wife Karissa, Tracy Torcom Harlow and husband Scot, and Randy Torcom; and her grandchildren, Hayden Harlow, Josie Harlow, Kelsey Torcom, Brendan Torcom, and Taylor Torcom. She also leaves behind extended family and dear friends who will forever honor her memory.
Nancy will be remembered for her intelligence, warmth, and genuine kindness. She had an uncanny ability to remember what every family member loved and made gifting an art. She touched the lives of many, leaving behind a legacy of love, generosity, and grace.
A memorial service celebrating Nancy's life will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 26, at Chapel on the Creeks in Rogers, Arkansas. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association.
