On July 9, 2024, we lost a humble, kind, genuine, and godly man, Reverend Juan Garza. Known to many as Pastor Juan, he was a pioneering figure in Laredo's drug rehabilitation efforts. Through his unwavering faith and dedication, he established a ministry with God's help, serving as the director and Pastor for Victory Outreach.
Pastor Juan's journey was marked by personal transformation. After enduring a rough patch in his own life, God saved him on May 14, 1971 in San Antonio, TX. Through the ministry of Pastor Freddy Garcia at Victory Outreach, he found redemption and a new purpose. He served there for six years before returning to his hometown of Laredo, TX, where he launched the Victory Outreach Ministry in Laredo, TX.
After 18 impactful years, the Lord called him to Monterrey, Nuevo León, México, where he established a rehabilitation center. Three years later, he returned to Laredo, TX, and in October 1997, he founded Calvary Center. His mission was clear: to help and reach out to addicts, providing them with love, food, shelter, and most importantly, prayer and the word of God. Pastor Juan's personal testimony gave him a deep understanding of their struggles and needs, recognizing their hunger for a place to call "home."
Reverend Juan Garza leaves behind a legacy of compassion and faith. Cherishing his memory are his beloved wife, Esabel Garza, and his children: Diana Garza Gomez, Rene Garza, Cynthia Zavala, Yvonne Garza, Daniel Garza, and Genesis Garza Téllez. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other family members.
Reverend Juan Garza's life was a testament to the transformative power of God's love and the profound impact of one man's dedication to serving others. He will be deeply missed but his legacy will continue to inspire and uplift those he touched.
The services are under the direction of Fred Dickey Funeral Home of 1320 Trey Drive Laredo, Texas. And will be held as follows:
July 23 viewing 5-9 pm with chapel service at 6 pm,
July 24 departing at 9 am to the Laredo City Cemetery.
