Juanita B. Brougham, 103, passed away peacefully on April 4, 2024 at the Heritage Center in Evansville, Indiana.
Juanita was born February 16, 1921 in Polin, Kentucky and was a resident of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida and Evansville, Indiana. She was a member of the Eastern Star Chapter 555 and Honorary Ladies of the Hadi Shriners. She was active in the Daughters of the Nile and was an international queen of Pi Rho Zeta. Juanita greatly enjoyed being a resident and board member at the Holiday Village Retirement Community and was a longtime member of the Evansville County Club. She was an avid cook and entertainer. Known affectionately as "Nanny" to all, Juanita loved nothing more than spending time with her family and friends, telling stories and making people laugh. She never knew a stranger and her joy for life was infectious-often heard proclaiming "Oh Happy Day!"
Juanita is survived by her daughter, Karin (John) Diekmann; stepdaughter, Joan Brougham; and daughters-in-law, Jane Knott and Darra Knott. She is also survived by grandchildren, Rebecca Lundregan, Christine (Martin) Webb, Brent (Megan) Knott, Ashley Knott, Matthew (Ashley) Knott, Carrie (Danny) Emerson, Daniel Diekmann, Colleen Parks, Shannon (Bill) Nally, Jeannine (Jerry) Durcholz, Denise Fry, Bert (Chicca) Brougham, Carolyn Garrett and Erin Savoy; 29 great grandchildren; several great-great grandchildren and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Juanita is preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Nellie Hendricks; brothers, Leon Hendricks, Marshall Hendricks, Ray Hendricks and Floyd Hendricks; and sister, Addie May Hendricks. Also preceded in death by husbands, Bernard L. Knott, Oliver M. Hitch and Albert E. "Pappy" Brougham; and children, William B. Knott and Gerald (Jerry) Knott; stepchildren, Benedict A. Brougham and Gayle Brougham Cannon; and grandsons, William B. Knott and John Garrett.
A celebration of Juanita's life will be held at 4:00 pm on Saturday, May 4, 2024 at Browning Funeral Home, 738 Diamond Ave., Evansville, IN 47711.
Friends may visit from 2:00 pm until service time on Saturday at the funeral home.
