Judith "Judy" Martin Dies, a beacon of light and love, passed away on February 6, 2024, in Austin, Texas, at the age of 84. Born on August 22, 1939, in Houston, Texas, Judy's life was a testament to the power of optimism and the strength of the human spirit.
Judy's journey began in Houston, where she lived with her loving parents and sister in River Oaks. As she started grade school, she began a friendship with her best friends that lasted until her passing.
Judy enjoyed English and writing short stories. She pursued this love, earning a BA in English from Baylor University in Waco, Texas. Judy's academic foundation paved the way for a career as an English and Dyslexia Teacher, where she enjoyed passing her love for English and writing to countless students.
Before suffering a brain aneurysm when she was 50, Judy's life was rich with interests that reflected her joyful and spirited personality. Judy was a creative writer of short stories, an avid golfer, and a card game enthusiast. She enjoyed these activities with a wonderful group of friends who connected, laughed and created memories over the course of many years.
Life was not easy for Judy after the aneurysm, but her optimism was unwavering. Those who knew her best describe her as the epitome of friendliness. Her loving nature and infectious laugh were a comfort to everyone she met.
Judy is survived by her adoring family; her son Martin Dies, her daughter Charlotte Dies Miller, her son-in-law Steve Miller, and her grandson Ian Miller. Their lives are a reflection of Judy's enduring love. She was not only their mother but their greatest advocate and supporter, instilling in them the values of kindness, resilience, and compassion.
As we remember Judy, let us not dwell on the sorrow of her passing, but celebrate her heart full of love and her spirit that could not be dimmed.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, March 14, 2024 at St. Luke's on the Lake Episcopal Church, 5600 Ranch Rd. 620 N., Austin, TX 78732.
