Judith "Judy" Ann Filla was born on July 31, 1942, the youngest of three children, in Charleston, Missouri to Harold D. and Cecelia E. (née Scheffer) Gier. She passed away in St. Louis, Missouri on Wednesday, August 20. 2025.
Judy grew up in Charleston, Missouri and moved to St. Louis, Missouri with her family during her high school years. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1960. On April 18, 1964, she married Paul Edwin Filla at Saint Catherine of Siena in Pagedale, Missouri. Their marriage was blessed with four children, 10 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
Her adult life was spent living in Washington, Missouri. Judy's great interpersonal skills helped her to have a successful career as a real estate agent in Washington for many years. She took great pride in her work.
Her life revolved around her family and friends. She wanted nothing more than to spend time with her family, especially her beloved grandchildren. Christmas was her favorite holiday and she loved to host the family every year to celebrate. There would always be too much candy, cookies, and appetizers at the party. Everyone would be showered with gifts. If a grandchild brought a new friend for the first time, she would find out a little something about them and made sure that person received a Christmas gift to open with the group.
Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Cecelia Gier; her brother Harold "Dee" Gier Jr.; and her sister Kathy "Sissy" Just.
She is survived by her husband, Paul Filla; son, Greg Filla and his wife Beth of Manchester; three daughters, Rebecca Dutton and her husband Tim of St. Charles, Nancy Kessler and her husband Mike of O'Fallon, Gina Schromm and her husband Mike of Santa Cruz, California; ten grandchildren, Nathan Filla and his wife Macey, Drew Filla, Moriah Dutton, Mason Dutton, Dominik Dutton, Megan Kessler, Zach Kessler, Carter Kessler, Ella Schromm, Aden Schromm; one great-grandson, Hudson Filla; and many other cherished family members and friends.
A visitation will be held from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM on Thursday, August 28, 2025, at Oltmann Funeral Home in Washington.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 AM on Thursday, August 28, 2025, at St. Gertrude Catholic Church in Krakow, MO with Rev. James Holbrook officiating. Burial will immediately follow in the church cemetery. A luncheon at the church will follow interment.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
