Rose Johanna Edler (nee' Buthod) was born June 03, 1937 in Loose Creek, MO to Louis and Johanna (nee' Schaefer) Buthod. Fortified with the Sacraments of the Holy Mother Church, Rose passed away Thursday, October 2, 2025 at the age of 88 years.
Rose grew up in Loose Creek, MO where she attended Immaculate Conception Catholic School. She was united in marriage to Herbert J. Edler on March 12, 1955 in Warren County, MO. The couple made their home in Washington, MO and their marriage was blessed with six children.
Rose worked at Edison Brothers Distribution Center in Washington, MO for many years. After she retired, Rose worked as a receptionist and funeral assistant for Nieburg-Vitt Funeral Home and later at Oltmann Funeral Home. She was a talented quilter and loved spending time intricately piecing together beautiful quilts. Rose loved her family dearly. She was a longtime parishioner of St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church in Washington, where she volunteered her time with the Ladies Sodality and Knights of Columbus Auxiliary.
Rose was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Johanna Buthod; her husband, Herbert Edler; one son, Glennon Edler; son-in-law, David Kuchs; four brothers: Don and Donald Buthod (in-infancy), Clarence Buthod, and Marvin Buthod; and one sister, Florence Branson.
She is survived by five children: David Edler and wife Dana, Michael Edler, Mary Edler-Kuchs, Joe Edler, and Robin Remillard and husband Tom, all of Washington; seven grandchildren: Wendy (Mike) Edler-Mackin, Christy (Scott) Edler-Noel, Amanda Rose (Shawn) Miller, Ashley (Jules) Updike, Dustin Edler, Stephanie Rose (Jared Schiavoni) Kuchs, and Michelle (Andrew) Patke; fourteen great-grandchildren: Isaac Edler, Isabel Mackin, Faith Edler, Carlee Rose (Quinn) Schuette, Ethan Edler-Corbett, Julia Miller, Leo Miller, Jack Updike, Oliver Frigon-Schiavoni, David Schiavoni, August Patke, Emmett Patke, Lorelai Patke, and Marilyn Rose Patke; three great-great-grandchildren: Corbin Gillette, Claire Schuette, and Geri Lee Schuette; two sisters: Grace Lansford of Jefferson City and Dorothy Phillips and husband Marvin of Jefferson City; two brothers: Norman Buthod and wife Ingrid of Westphalia and Walter Buthod and wife Diane of Foristell; sister-in-law, Janet Buthod of Columbia; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.
Funeral Mass was celebrated at 11:00 AM on Friday, October 10, 2025 at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church in Washington, MO with Rev. Mike Boehm officiating and Rev. Tony Ritter, Rev. Jeff Maassen, and Rev. Brian Hecktor concelebrating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made in honor of Rose Edler to St. Francis Borgia Grade School or St. John Gildehaus School.
